is a world-class pro trials rider. And he's British. I could stop right there- this is a fantastic achievement. But the attainments on paper don't come close to the inspirational contribution he has made to mountain biking in Britain. He began as a moto-trials rider and branched out into mtb's later. Along the way he's picked up several titles and excellent results. But he's gone bigger than that. Inspired by the likes of America's Hans Rey, Martyn put showbusiness into trials and stunned people with his riding wherever he did it, always stunning and always incredibly skilful. His impact has been huge. Ashton has made trials riding cool for us, helping to transform it from a little niche of 'proper' riding into the fastest growing area of the sport. Without him and his contemporaries, we'd never know how much fun you could have on a mountain bike without going anywhere. He is a fantastic role model- an ordinary bloke that excels in his field up against the best in the world, and we salute him. |
