Forks
Suspension forks have become pretty much standard equipment on mountain bikes
in the last ten years. The increased speed and ride comfort over rough terrain
far outweights their weight penalty over rigid forks, and designs have evolved
so much in this time that even a budget fork can offer decent performance.
Having said all that, when I started only racers had them, and there is no
better foundation to learning the skills of mountain biking than a rigid bike.
