Although it is easy to think of the wheel as one complete unit, it is made up of several crucial component parts, all of which contribute to the overall weight and performance of the whole thing, known as the wheelset. Check each part on a new bike and think carefully about speccing components on a new wheelset. The best wheels are handbuilt and tensioned by eye and experience.
