The Trackster was and still is a great thing to wear
on your bike. Comfortable, snug enough to not get stuck in your
chain and made of a space age (for 1952) material that stretches
and dries really quickly. The loops at the bottom mean they never
ride up and your ankles stay covered, and at about £20 a pair
they're great value. So why don't we all wear them?
Personally, I blame my old PE teacher, Mr Perry,
who I never saw wear anything else. And this wasn't just PE lessons,
I'm talking about assemblies, lunchtimes, parents evenings...Mr
Perrys' dress sense was pillaried by almost everyone, and rightly
so. When I wore my Ron's to ride in, this p'ss-taking passed to
me by proxy and I was forced to wear shorts in all but sub-zero
temperatures to avoid putting on the Ron's. It's a shame, but maybe
everyone has their own Mr Perry, because I haven't seen anyone under
forty wearing Tracksters in a very long time...
